Quick Start

General Start here

Go from installing the toolkit to running your first app on an OpenView display.

Follow these steps in order. Each one links to the page with the full walkthrough.

  1. Set up Podman. The toolkit builds your apps inside containers, using Podman. Install Podman, switch it to rootful mode, and start its machine — see Setting Up Podman.
  2. Download and install the OpenPV Developer Toolkit. From Download the Software Here on the Enovation Controls Help Center, download the installer for the most current OpenPV 5.x release, for Windows, Ubuntu or macOS. This guide is for OpenPV 5.x, so don't use an older 4.x, 3.x or 2.x release. Run the installer, then start the toolkit.
  3. Sign in with your Spark account. If you don't have one yet, click Sign Up for New Account — see Sign-In.
  4. Install the build tools. Make sure Podman is running, then open Plugins and download the Core Tools and the Platform Support Package for your display — see Updating Core Tools and Updating Platform Support Packages.
  5. Connect your display. On Targets, add a connection with your display's Platform Family and IP address.
  6. Prepare the display. A new display needs the latest BSP first — see Flash Distribution — and then Prep Target before it can run a package.
  7. Create a project. Click New... and start from a template — for example, Ahsoka.CS.SimpleUI. Some project types need their own tools, installed first: for a Qt project, set up Qt Creator 20 or newer to build it in the OpenPV container — see Developing QT Applications with Qt Creator; for a Storyboard project, install Crank Storyboard from Crank Software.
  8. Build it and load it. On the Packaging panel, click Generate Package, then Load To Target — see Generate Package and Load To Target. Your app starts on the display.
Note: Keep the toolkit and its tools up to date from Updates and Plugins.
